Measurement of breath samples for the isotope 13C

The Department also offers a range of specialised tests which do not fit into any of the other main categories. This includes:-

  • A range of tests for assessing gastrointestinal function, including investigation of laxative-induced diarrhoea.
  • Detection of Helicobacter Pylori infection by serology or by the 13C-urea breath test.
  • Measurement of cholinesterase for investigation of suxamethonium sensitivity and occupational exposure to organophosphates.
  • Assay of intracellular and vascular adhesion molecules, interleukin-6 and interleukin-10 for assessment of vascular disease and diabetes.
